Euphonia hirundinacea: Breeding observations in Altas Montañas, Veracruz, México

The study of breeding biology allows us to predict and identify species with a higher extinction risk or carry out population management for conservation purposes. It is important to document the characteristics of life histories, since for many Neotropical species it is incomplete. The Yellow-throated Euphonia (Euphonia hirundinacea) is a common finch widely distributed in the Mexican Neotropics, however, there is little information on its life history and nesting sites in the country. In this study we provide information about breeding biology and nest sites of the species in the Altas Montañas region of Veracruz, Mexico. We also recorded for the first time the construction of a nest on an artificial substrate.Downloads
